Autumn is one of the best times to visit Skuyö Nordic Skye. The island becomes quieter, the trees change into beautiful colours, and the sky seems to tell a different story each day. While the weather can shift through all four seasons in a single day, that’s all part of the charm. At Skuyö, we’ve made sure there’s plenty for you to enjoy no matter what the weather brings.
From slow mornings spent with a fresh cup of coffee to relaxing evenings in the warmth of our log burner, you’ll find comfort and relaxation around every corner. Love the idea of roasting marshmallows on an open fire? We’ve got a fire pit just for that. Prefer to wind down in our hot tub with a glass of prosecco as the nights draw in? We’ve got you covered there too. Whatever cosy means to you, Skuyö is the perfect place to enjoy it.
But what about exploring South Skye during the quieter months? While some places might be closed, there’s still so much to see and do.
What to Do on South Skye in Autumn
Walks and Hikes on Skye
Skye’s natural beauty shines in every season, but autumn brings a special kind of magic. The Quiraing and the Fairy Pools might be popular, but down here in the south, the quieter paths await. Take a walk through the peaceful Sleat Peninsula, where you’ll find woodlands, coastal views, and maybe even a glimpse of local wildlife. You don’t have to go far, simply linger in the picturesque village of Isle Ornsay right here on our doorstep.
Visit Skye’s Museum of the Isles
Just a short drive from Skuyö, the Museum of the Isles at Armadale Castle (open until November) offers a peek into Skye’s rich history. Explore the castle grounds, and when the weather is cooler, you can spend some time learning about the history of Clan Donald and the island itself.
Stargazing on Skye
With fewer visitors and darker skies, autumn is a fantastic time for stargazing on Skye. Our hot tub is the perfect spot to sit back, relax, and gaze up at the stars, making the most of those clear, crisp nights.
Cosy Up in the Local Skye Cafés
When the weather calls for indoor time, head to one of the nearby cafés for a cosy afternoon. We have a lovely café right here in Isle Ornsay called ‘An Crubh.’ Many local spots in Sleat or Broadford offer warm drinks, delicious homemade treats, and views that make sitting inside feel like a treat. In fact, The Coffee Bothy in Broadford is heralded as ‘one of the best cake cafes on Skye’ on Tripadvisor. That’s saying something, because Skye is a very foody place these days!
Wildlife Watching on Skye
Autumn is a great time to spot local wildlife on Skye. You might catch sight of deer, seals along the coast, or even eagles soaring above. We have otters here in Isle Ornsay – bring your camera and be still by the water for a while – you might just catch a glimpse.
Or take a quiet walk along the coast or spend some time near Loch Eishort, where the views are spectacular, and nature feels even closer.
So, whether you’re here to enjoy the peace and quiet, get outdoors, or simply snuggle in with a book, Skuyö Nordic Skye is ready to welcome you. Why not escape the crowds and make the most of cosy season with us?
