Days Out from Skuyö Nordic Skye

Explore the Isle of Skye and beyond from your base at Skuyö Nordic Skye. If you’re the kind of traveller who loves pottering around small, quirky places, sipping coffee, shopping for hidden treasures, and discovering hidden corners of the Highlands, here’s a three-day itinerary just for you. We’d love you to linger for a few nights with us. However, even if your trip is fairly short, you should be able to pack most of our suggestions in, whilst getting a real flavour for what locals love about Skye and the surrounding area.

Day 1: The Classic Highland Adventure
These treasures can be explored on your way over to Skye, or as a separate day out once you’ve settled yourselves in at Skuyö.

Eilean Donan Castle: Start your day with a drive over to one of Scotland’s most iconic landmarks, Eilean Donan Castle. Nestled on a small tidal island where three lochs meet, the castle offers history, breath-taking views, and plenty of photo opportunities. It’s a stunning way to begin your adventure.

Manuella’s Wee Bakery: On your way back, stop at this delightful wee bakery in Ardelve. Known for its hearty bakes and welcoming atmosphere, this is the perfect place for a light vegetarian lunch or a slice of cake. Grab something to take back to the Skuyö with you for later — her fresh breads are a real treat!

Ooshke, Kyle of Lochalsh: Round off your day with a visit to Ooshke. This tiny shop is brimming with artisan goods, from handcrafted home accessories to eco-friendly gifts. It’s a great spot to pick up unique items that reflect Scotland’s creative heart. We particularly love the Mica Peet jewellery collection.

Day 2: Broadford’s Hidden Gems

Don’t just drive through Broadford on your way to visit the North of the island and certainly don’t make the Co-op your only stop! Broadford is brimming with little hidden gems.

Isle of Skye Candle Company: Begin your day in Broadford at this shop where you can browse hand-poured candles made with natural soy wax and inspired by the island’s landscapes. The Highland Gorse scent is a must-smell!

The Treasure Hut: Explore this cutsie little shop filled with crystals, fossils, and other curiosities. Here’s where you might find a thoughtful keepsake or a gift for someone back home.

The Selkie Collective: This vibrant space celebrates sustainable living and creativity. You’ll find eco-friendly clothing, local crafts, and a welcoming community vibe.

The Coffee Bothy: End your morning with a coffee or hot chocolate at this cosy café. With vegetarian-friendly options and plenty of charm, it’s an ideal spot to unwind before heading back to Skuyö for a relaxed afternoon in the hot tub.

Day 3: Discover Edinbane’s Creative Soul

On day three, it’s time to explore a little further afield on Skye. While Portree is surely on everyone’s bucket list, we also love the tiny hamlet of Edinbane.

Edinbane Pottery: Spend the morning exploring the workshop of this renowned pottery studio. Every piece is handmade and uniquely crafted, with designs inspired by the landscapes of Skye. Watching the potters at work is a joy in itself.

The Edinbane Inn: Pop into this characterful pub for a vegetarian-friendly lunch. Their local produce and hearty dishes make it a favourite stop for travellers and locals alike.

Edinbane Lodge: Feeling flush or celebrating something special? Chef Calum Montgomery (Skye Chef Monty) has featured twice on the Great British Menu and if you dine here, you’ll understand why.

Skye Shilasdair Shop: Just a short drive away, this wool and craft shop is a hidden treasure. Known for its naturally dyed yarns, it’s perfect for craft lovers or anyone seeking a unique memento from their trip.

Tips for Pottering around Skye & Lochalsh

Pack Layers: Skye’s weather changes quickly, so dress in layers and bring a waterproof jacket for any unexpected showers.

Take Your Time: Each stop is a destination in itself. Allow plenty of time to linger, browse, and soak in the atmosphere.

Bring a Tote Bag: You’re bound to pick up treasures along the way, so come prepared to carry your finds.

These days out are designed to be unhurried and filled with small moments of joy. Whether it’s the scent of a hand-poured candle, the taste of freshly baked bread, or the discovery of a beautiful piece of pottery, each moment will make your time on Skye magical and unforgettable.
